The beautiful story of Ile-Ife’s legend, Moremi, will again unfold in Lagos on Sunday when it will be staged by Marygold Entertainment. The Moremi essence is not strange to literature – prose, poetry and drama. It has indeed been performed home and abroad but Marygold is coming with a refreshing play that will keep the audience glued to every inch of the stage. It will be premiered at Excellence Hotel, Ogba.

In the cast are great actors that include Tairu Ajibode, who is a former member of the National Troupe of Nigeria, under Professor Ahmed Yerima; Isreal Oyebamijii, Oladiran Tolulope, Jolayemi Iyanu, Obafemi Janet, Adejumo love, Aina Folajimi and Baazman.

The producer, multi-talented and highly resourceful Mariam Amuda, aka Marygold, professeses in an interview with Phenomenal.com.ng that although she has done movies, comedy and some other creative treats, she decided to challenge herself to do something special and unique. Moremi is her first stage offering; so, she is putting every spice that will make it taste memorable into it.

She says on what lured her into staging Moremi: “The Moremi story inspires me a lot because it depicts the strength of a woman. For her to take the courage to fight for the liberty of her people is a great encouragement to every woman out there. It assures that “We can do it, we have the strength.” It also makes us understand the relevance of the strength of a woman in the society.”

Knowing how important the Moremi story is to Ife the Source, Marygold has paid a visit to the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who, she notes, gave her fatherly blessing and encouragement.

She recalls, “His Imperial Majesty the Ooni of Ife was very happy seeing youths staging Moremi again in Lagos.”

Despite some challenges she has had to tackle – including financial challenges that she has had to overcome for the play to hit the progress it has made – she says all is set for stage.

On how the story, scripted by her, unfolds in the play, Marygold, who is also a presenter and voiceover artiste, explains that she is largely faithful to the real Moremi story, but she wants the audience to expect surprises too.

She adds, “Moremi is a legendary Queen in the Yoruba kingdom (Ile Ife to be precise). She takes the courage to fight for the liberty of her people, being enslaved by the Enemy. She fights and wins the war but is later asked by the goddess of the River Esinminrin to sacrifice her only son which is the only child (Ella Oluorogbo) for the battle won.”

The producer stresses that the play will come up on Sunday: 3 pm ( Red Carpet), 4pm (Main Event), at Excellence Hotel, Ogba Lagos.
