France head Zidane has handed Manchester City star Rayan Cherki is approval, admitting he would have loved to share a pitch with Cherki during his own legendary playing career.
This comes right as Zidane took offer the France job where he has immediately handed Cherki a central role in France’s midfield setup.
Zidane said: “I would have loved to play with a player like Rayan Cherki when I was a player! A real baller. He finds such incredible passes, and he even knows how to play without the ball.”
Cherki had a frustrating 2026 World Cup campaign where he barely featured in any game but has been handed a starting role in Zidane’s first match in charge—a 1-0 win over Turkey.
