Double trouble for Okorocha as INEC withholds his senatorial victory

For the controversial Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, this seems to be a tough time in his political career.
His huge investment in the candidature of his brother-in-law, Uche Nwosu, failed on Monday when the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, emerged winner of the governorship election in the state.
Okorocha had backed Nwosu to move to the Action Alliance when his bid to become the candidate for the All Progressives Congress failed.
About the time Nwosu’s loss was being confirmed, the Independent Electoral Commission also omitted Okorocha’s name from the list of senators due for certificates of return,
He had earlier been declared winner having polled 97, 762, beating Peoples Democratic Party’s Jones Onyereri who got 68,117 votes.
But when the list came out on Monday, Okorocha’s name was blanked out.
Although observers say this may be an invitation to a legal battle, INEC’s action may be as a result of the claim by the returning officer Prof Francis Ibeawuchi that he was forced to declare Okorocha winner, an action that INEC has said it would no more tolerate from any player.
