Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has described his his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as a tested and trusted ally.

Sanwo-Olu noted this as he congratulated him on clocking 62.

This is contained in a statement by Sanwo-Olu, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, on Friday in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu also described Hamzat as a dedicated public servant, who was  committed to the growth and development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

He said that Hamzat’s years of service in various capacities had demonstrated his commitment to public service and effective governance.

“On behalf of my wife, family, the Government and the people of Lagos State, i celebrate my dear brother, friend and reliable partner, on his 62nd birthday.

“He is a trusted, courageous and passionate brother, friend and dependable partner.

“I have worked closely and collaborated with him for over seven years to deliver good governance and the dividends of democracy to millions of Lagosians,” he said.

The governor said he was proud to have undertaken the leadership and governance journey with Hamzat since May 29, 2019.

Sanwo-Olu noted that Hamzat’s contributions to the state’s development through various positions he had occupied had continued to inspire many.

He also described his deputy as an administrator of exceptional quality, a seasoned technocrat and politician, hardworking, supportive, trustworthy and a dedicated partner.

The governor also expressed his belief that Hamzat would be a worthy successor as the 16th governor of Lagos State.

“He is tested, trusted and adjudged to be competent. He possesses the capacity to lead Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He urged Lagos electorate to support Hamzat, the APC governorship candidate, in the 2027 governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu wished Hamzat many more years of service, wisdom and success and  prayed that God would grant him good health to continue serving Lagos State and Nigeria.

Hamzat, who was born on Sept. 19, 1964, served in Lagos as Commissioner for Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure before becoming deputy governor in 2019.
