Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been released on bail after being arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

Okorocha was arrested on Monday night, Oct. 12, 2026, and released after about an hour of interrogation.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and release on bail to Channels Television, adding that the former governor had been asked to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continued.

The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour previous police invitations concerning the investigation.

Okorocha was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on Sept. 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to Sept. 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation.
