Mr David Olofu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Benue South Senatorial District, has proposed establishing a People’s Assembly and People’s Council to strengthen representation in the district.

Olofu, a former Benue Commissioner for Finance, made the proposal on Tuesday in Makurdi while presenting his agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the People’s Assembly would bring together representatives from the nine local government areas, including council chairmen, councillors and members of the state and National Assembly, regardless of political affiliation.

The assembly would meet annually to identify and prioritise the needs of the people, while the council would translate the resolutions into a development agenda for elected representatives.

Olofu said the agenda would guide budget preparation and project implementation at the state and federal levels.

“If, by the grace of God, I become the senator representing Benue South, I will take that agenda to the National Assembly and ensure that what needs to go into the national budget gets into the budget,” he said.

He also promised to develop a comprehensive development plan for Benue South, with measurable targets for assessing the performance of elected representatives.

Olofu urged constituents to assess their representatives based on measurable achievements rather than promises, saying his objective was to establish a system where the people would define development priorities and standards for evaluating their representatives.
