Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has intensified his campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, describing it as his major political focus ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike spoke during town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday.
He criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket of Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, describing it as a “joint ticket of corruption.”
Wike also said the opposition alliance lacked the strength to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State.
He criticised Atiku over recent comments on accepting financial inducements from the ruling party, questioning his anti-corruption stance.
“When I saw Atiku on television yesterday, asking Nigerians to take any money given to them by people from the party in power, that it will be stolen money, I said haa, Atiku is now an apostle of anti-corruption?” Wike said.
“The same Atiku that his boss described as corrupt and that one of his major regrets is making him his Vice President is talking.”
Wike said his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election was driven by federal appointments and developmental projects extended to Rivers State under the administration.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Tinubu’s 2027 campaign would be smoother than the 2023 election and also criticised other opposition figures, including Peter Obi.
