A 34-year-old visa agent, Akinyemi Olabamiji, was on Monday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding an intending emigrant of N4 million under the guise of procuring a Kuwait visa for him.
Olabamiji is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution counsel, ASP Tunji Olaniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 18, 2025, in the Mokola area of Ibadan.
Olaniyi alleged that Olabamiji fraudulently obtained N4 million from Olayinka Adewumi under the pretence of procuring a Kuwait visa for him.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 383 and was punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mr M. Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mudashiru ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
He adjourned the matter until September 19 for hearing.
