The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered two suspected stolen vehicles through the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) and handed the suspects over to the police for further investigation.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Osondu Ohaeri, said in a statement on Wednesday that the vehicles were recovered during separate verification exercises at the NVIS New Benin Office in Edo.
According to him, the first vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, was presented for verification by officials of the Edo Internal Revenue Service alongside a suspect. Checks on the NVIS platform revealed discrepancies in its registration details, prompting further investigation.
He said the registered owner later confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in Lagos in June 2025.
Ohaeri added that a second vehicle, a Toyota Venza, was intercepted during a routine verification exercise. Verification through the NVIS platform showed that the vehicle belonged to a resident of Sapele, Delta, who reported that it had disappeared with a woman in January 2026.
The FRSC spokesperson said both vehicles and the suspects were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Edo Police Command.
He said the recoveries highlighted the effectiveness of the NVIS in tracing stolen vehicles, verifying ownership and supporting law enforcement efforts.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the personnel involved and urged vehicle owners and buyers to verify vehicles through the NVIS before completing any transaction.
