Wales and Denmark had a face off this Saturday in the last 16 games at the Euros. Before the start of the game, that however went Denmark’s way (4-0), Bale gave his opponents a commemorative shirt dedicated to Christian Eriksen.
Wales and Denmark got the last 16 stages underway at the Euros. The Johann Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam hosted the match which once again showed both sides show their support for Eriksen.
Gareth Bale, as Wales captain, gave the shirt to opposite number Simon Kjaer. It had the number 10 on it and the name of the Inter player on it. He suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s tournament opener against Finland.
As well as the shirt number and his name, the shirt had a message in Welsh wishing Eriksen well.
It was an emotional build up to the game. As well as the lovely gesture, the stands at the Johan Cruyff Arena were also full of emotion. The Danish anthem was also sung by the fans present.
Yussuf Poulsen was one of Denmark’s injured players who was at the stadium and he went down to pitch level to listen to the anthem and hugs the subs.
