In an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI), Mbappé spoke about his bond with Africa, promising that if he wins the 2026 Ballon d’Or, he intends to dedicate the trophy to his fans across the continent.
Mbappé’s father Wilfrid is Cameroonian, while his mother Fayza Lamari is of Algerian descent.
Mbappe said:
“I was always raised with African culture, even though I was born in France and did everything there. I have never cut the link with my roots and my origins. It’s important because it’s part of who you are.”
“I want to thank them for the support they’ve given me all these years. It’s never changed; I’ve always felt very loved every time I’ve set foot in Africa. Of course, having African roots, it’s always a pleasure to see people associate me with this award… I hope to be able to leave with the Ballon d’Or so that I can, in one way or another, dedicate it to them.”
