‘Ikenga: The Last Festival': Igbo epic film makes history, grosses N103m at cinemas

Epic film, ‘Ikenga: The Last Festival’, has earned history as it has become the highest-grossing Igbo-language film of all time in West Africa, grossing N103.4 million.

It is a Nollywood epic set in the peaceful kingdom of Umuani, where sacred traditions are law and dark magic is strictly forbidden.

In the movie directed by Darlington Obodo Kelechi, a powerful man rises to power and begins using forbidden dark magic to oppress the people of Umuani, threatening the community’s ancestral customs and generational order.

As the kingdom is thrown into turmoil and suffering, the King and elders face immense pressure to take drastic measures, restore order, and confront the dark forces threatening to consume their way of life.

The film parades actors that include Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Zubby Michael, Jide Kene Achufusi, Destiny Etiko, Regina Daniels, and Beverly Osu

FilmOne Entertainment announced the milestone in a post on its official Instagram page on Tuesday, describing the film as a record-breaking Igbo title.

FilmOne thanked Nigerian audiences for contributing to the film’s achievement and said Ikenga: The Last Festival was still showing in cinemas nationwide.
