The Nigerian Navy has recovered about 83,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil concealed in dugout pits and reservoirs in Rivers State.
The Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in an operational update issued on Thursday, saying the recovery followed operations conducted in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni area of the state.
Folorunsho said the operation also led to the discovery and deactivation of two illegal refining sites linked to crude oil theft.
He noted that the operation, carried out under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, is part of the navy’s sustained offensive against crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta.
According to him, the latest discovery came days after similar illegal refining infrastructure was dismantled in the area, indicating continued attempts by economic saboteurs to resume illicit operations.
Folorunsho said the navy’s sustained presence in identified hotspots had continued to disrupt illegal refining networks, protect critical oil and gas infrastructure and safeguard the nation’s economic interests.
He reaffirmed the navy’s commitment to combating crude oil theft and protecting Nigeria’s maritime and energy assets through ongoing operations.
