Nollywood actress Ayobami Ojo has opened up about the challenges and discrimination she says she has faced because of her profession, revealing that she no longer wants to be identified as an actress.
In a video circulating on social media, Ojo said she stepped away from active acting years ago and maintained that she never lived the lifestyle often associated with actresses.
The actress recounted several experiences she described as discriminatory, including losing a land purchase after a seller allegedly withdrew from the deal because his wife objected to selling property to an actress.
She also claimed that a landlord once refused to rent her a building intended for business purposes after learning about her profession.
According to Ojo, the stigma extended to her personal life, as a man’s family allegedly discouraged him from marrying her because she was an actress.
Expressing frustration over the recurring stereotypes, she appealed to the public to stop identifying her by her profession, insisting that she had earned everything she owns through hard work.
“I’m tired of being called an actress. Please stop calling me an actress. I have never done anything wrong. Everything I have, I worked for,” she said.
