With Nigeria trashing Rwanda 2-0 in dominant world cup qualifier on Friday, it has moved to the fourth position in Group C.
The Super Eagles defeated Rwanda 2-0 in a crucial FIFA World Cup qualification match at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The game, played on March 21, 2025, at 5:00 PM (WAT), saw Victor Osimhen score twice in the first half, securing Nigeria’s first win in the qualifiers.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a powerful header from a cross by Ademola Lookman.
Just before halftime, at around 44 minutes into the game, he capitalized on a defensive mistake to double Nigeria’s lead.
This gave the Super Eagles a strong advantage going into the second half.
Rwanda increased their attacking intensity after the break, pushing forward in search of a goal.
At 75 minutes, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made a crucial save, denying Rwanda a way back into the match. Despite their efforts, Rwanda could not break Nigeria’s defence.
The match concluded with a 2-0 victory for Nigeria. The win, which took place at 6:45 PM (WAT), marked Nigeria’s first success in the qualifiers.
With this result, Nigeria now has six points in the group standings, moving to fourth place, while Rwanda remains in third with seven points.
