Former Borussia Dortmund center-back Mats Hummels is set to join Italy side, AS Roma.

Many top European sides had attempted to sign the German defender this summer, with Brighton & Hove Albion, Bologna, and Real Sociedad coming closest in signing the 35-year-old defender.

Nevertheless, earlier this week, Roma advanced in talks with signing Hummels.

Hummels will be brought into the Roma squad to replace ex-Manchester United center-back Chris Smalling after he signed into Saudi Arabia Club Al Fayha.

He has represented both German Giants Bayern and Dortmund for his entire career, yet all of a sudden he is moving to Italy. Still, AS Roma is a big club and he will be able to play European football there.

AS Roma has booked medical for Mats Hummels on Wednesday with an Improved contract proposal sent.

He has made over 500 total appearances for Dortmund, winning the Bundesliga twice and finishing runner-up in the UEFA Champions League in 2013 and 2024.
