Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle has included injured striker Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while young forward George Ilenikhena has received his first senior national team call up.
Osimhen, who has been sidelined for about two weeks with an injury, remains part of the squad for Nigeria’s matches against Madagascar and Guinea Bissau.
The Galatasaray striker is expected to be assessed further before the qualifiers as the coaching staff monitors his recovery.
Meanwhile, Ilenikhena’s invitation represents a major step in the young forward’s international career.
The Saudi Arabia-based striker has now been handed the opportunity to make his senior debut for the three time African champions.
Nigeria will begin its AFCON qualifying campaign against Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to face Guinea Bissau four days later.
Chelle also named established players including captain Wilfred Ndidi, Stanley Nwabali, Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon in the 24-man squad.
The Super Eagles will also face Russia in an international friendly during the same international window.
