Veteran actor, Kanayo O Kanayo, has said that divorce is not part Igbo culture.
This is as he said that monogamy is alien to Africa.
This is despite the fact that Kanayo is publicly known to have been married to one wife, Nneka Onyekwere, for many years.
Speaking with Nedu on the Honest Bunch podcast, he said it was when he got to Lagos that he started learning about divorcing, saying it was strange in the setting he left behind.
Kanayo claimed, “I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing.
“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things.”
