Comedian and film producer, Ay Makun, has responded to those who criticised him for receiving the national award conferred on him by the former President Muhammdu Buhari.
The comedian had posted on social media how thrilled he was to receive the national honour.
In response, AY said that getting an award is the highest honor one can receive, and that it has nothing to do with the person who bestows it because the important thing is that he has contributed his fair share to the development of the country.
He maintained that his allegiance is first and foremost to Nigeria and not to a president or any political party.
AY wrote:
“Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point.
Our country is bigger and more important than any president or political party awarding it.
A national honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation building.
So my allegiance is to a country where i have contributed my own quota, and i am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation.”
Meanwhile, afrobeat artiste, Seun Kuti, has berated those who had criticised Buhari but later accepted the award.
Seun Kuti who recently talked about the national award, opined that half of those who collected the national award, were among those who criticised the Buhari led administration.He argued in a post:
“Half of the people criticizing this government as the worst thing ever deh go collect award for Abuja from the same government?
No one will reject it on principle? Or Buhari don legit? Make una just tell me o. I dey ask for one presidential candidate.”
