A prominent politician in Ogun State, Mrs titilayo Ajanaku, is dead.
Ajanaku, who was former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Special Adviser on Women Affairs, died on Thursday at the age of 73.
She was said to have suffered a terminal illness.
While she had a robust political career, she suffered adversity during the Abacha regime as she was one of those tried for what is now known as a phantom coup.
While, until her death, the late Ajanaku was the Otun Iyalode of Egbaland,
Ajanaku was the chairman of old Abeokuta Local Government in Ogun State and, indeed, the first woman to be elected as a local government chairman in Nigeria.
Ajanaku, who was born on January 25, 1946 at Ago-Odo Quarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was a trained nurse, administrator and women leader.
In 2015, Ajanaku dumped the PDP and joined the Peoples Democratic Movement ahead of that year’s election.
She attended the Nawair-Ud-Deen Secondary School, Abeokuta; and trained in Nursing at Stobhill General Hospital, Nether-Edge City General Hospital, Sheffield, United Kingdom, between 1964 and 1965.
