Hours after the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, confirmed the authenticity of a video in which she shouted in anger as she and the Mama Daura family brawled over a facility in the Aso Rock, she has apologised to major stakeholders
She, on Wednesday, apologised to her children, family and Nigerians in general.
As this was happening, many Nigerians have, however, challenged Fatima, Daura’s daughter in fierce contest with Aisha.
She – Fatima – recorded the video.
Many of her critics both on and offline, argued that she did not give Aisha the respect she deserved, while noting that recording the First Lady as she boiled with anger was a height of effrontery.
Meanwhile, Aisha tendered the apology when governors’ wives visited her in Abuja.
She also pledged to construct a regional secretariat for the African First Ladies Peace Mission.
The AFLPM, which was established after the Beijing Conference of 1995, has been in the custody of Nigeria, with leadership rotating among African First Ladies.
The First Lady, according to a statement issued by her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, said:
“Commenting on the videos circulating on social networks, [Aisha] Buhari extended her apology to her children, her immediate family members and all well-meaning Nigerians over the embarrassment that the videos had caused,” the statement said.
She also expressed appreciation to the President for approving a new set of aides to assist her in carrying out her various responsibilities.
Those appointed are Dr Mairo Al-Makura, Special Assistant on African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), and Mr Muhammed Albishir as Special Assistant on Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).
Also appointed are Mr Wole Aboderin, Special Assistant on Non-Governmental Organisations, and Mr Aliyu Abdullahi as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
Others are Zainab Kazeem, Special Assistant on Domestic and Social Events, and Funke Adesiyan, Personal Assistant on Domestic and Social Events in the office of first lady.
Borno State First Lady, Falmata Umara Zulum, representing Northern First Ladies Forum and Betsy Obaseki, representing Southern First Ladies Forum spoke during the occasion.
Zulum said they were at the Villa to welcome her back after a long absence, and expressed their unalloyed loyalty and support to her initiatives, especially through the Future Assured Programme, which she said has made her a role model even to other African women.
