Some members of the Batch “B” stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that ended their orientation course in Iyana- Ipaja, Lagos on Tuesday said they were ready to serve their fatherland with their heart.
Over the 21 days of their orientation camp that they received the best training to prepare them for their work.
The orientation camp began on Aug. 20 and ended on Sept. 9 where the corpers were taken through many skills acquisition programmes, security tips and physical exercises and several other trainings.
Naomi Bominuru, a graduate of the University of Lagos, who while in camp worked with the Editorial and Radio Unit for dissemination of information, told NAN that it was a great experience for her.
“For me, I was exposed to many skills acquisition programmes, health tips, security and management tips; I also had the opportunity to work with the editorial team that produced news/information on camp.
“I made a lot of friends from different cultural backgrounds and from different states, indeed it was fun being able to relate with many people from other parts of the country.
“The next step for me as I go to my place of primary assignment is to translate all that I have learnt about tolerance, honesty and high level of responsibility to my work.
“I look forward to a great year and at the end hope that efforts will be well appreciated by the state,’’ Bominuru said.
Similarly, Mira Ihiedi, a graduate of the Federal College of Technology, Owerri, said that he was looking forward to contributing his quota to the development of his area of primary assignment.
“I had a great time while in camp, the training was excellent and there was always something to look up to for every other day in camp.
“We had several skills acquisition and professional programmes; we also were taken through rigorous training about community projects that can enhance better life for wherever we are sent to.
“Most importantly, the camp was fun-filled, especially the regular training we received from members of the Nigerian military, the football matches among the platoons and several events that held,’’ Ihiedi said.
In another development, Ayomide Aminu, a medical science graduate from the University of Ibadan, who served in Lagos in 2018/2019 session was given a N200, 000 cash award and recognition for her projects.
She was involved in re-establishing a public primary school library, by painting and supplying of books, she also contributed to the areas of rebuilding of several dilapidated classrooms.
She made tremendous impact that affected the lives of the youth which gave her the recognition by the Gov. Babajide Ambode of Lagos State.
Another person that did tremendously in his period as a corps member was Babatunde Moses, a graduate of Geography from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun.
He was awarded the cash sum of N150, 000 for his efforts in training two orphanages in tie and dye, fabric crafts works, paper design and stencil printing.
The orphanages are Bethlehem Orphanage, Ikotun and Compassionate Orphanage Isheri-Igando.
“The kids deserve to learn a skill for themselves, so that they can have something to fall back on and be better ready to face many challenges in the future.
“As for me it was just a service to humanity, it has basically brought the best out of me as an individual and also ready to impact my world,’’ Moses said.
