AFCON anti-climax as uninspiring Algeria lift the Nations Cup

An early goal from a deflected shot saw the Foxes of Algeria win the 32nd African Cup of Nations on Friday night.
They defeated hard-fighting Senegalese team 1- 0, in a duel in which the winners however gave less than expected of them.
While Senegal fought tooth and nail to reclaim the goal, over which their keeper is culpable, as he did not pursue the deflected ball, Algeria was a shadow of the kind of fight they put against the Super Eagles.
After the early goal, they hardly got the opponents’ keeper threatened at any other time.
Even their star player, Riyas Mahrez, spun no sensation.
Although his counterpart in the Senegalese team, Sadio Mane, proved his worth, he was constantly harassed even to the point of occasional provocation.
What might have turned the game around was a penalty kick earlier awarded Senegal, but was later overruled by the referee after consulting the VAR.
