After Manchester United’s 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night, defender Lisandro Martínez spoke up against the club’s board and technical director.
Speaking directly to United legend Peter Schmeichel on CBS Sports Golazo right after the final whistle in Madrid, the Argentine center-back openly criticized technical director Jason Wilcox and the board for failing to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
He said:
”This is NOT a Champions League quality squad.”
”I think us, the players, we can do more, but it’s also important to build a strong squad to be ready for these kinds of nights.”
”We had a fantastic season last season… and now we expected more from the top, from the people upstairs, to bring in more players to compete. Many teams have signed a lot of players as well!”
”For me, we do NOT have the best squad at the moment compared to other top teams.”
”We need more AMBITION, we need to talk more about WINNING the Champions League and the Premier League. I just expect MORE. I will not close my mouth.”
”Every season is the SAME… we talk about the same things. If we don’t say the truth then NOTHING will change.”
