The Chairman of Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, Alhaji Abdulmutallab Goya, has urged social media users to stop spreading false narratives and inflammatory posts.

Goya made the call during a sensitisation programme on the dangers of social media and drug abuse organised by the Funtua Local Government Council on Monday.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Information and Enlightenment, Babangida Layu, Goya said circulating unverified claims could cause unwarranted fear and threaten public safety.

“Social media is an important platform that can be used to disseminate useful information and promote community development.

“Many users utilise the platforms to circulate inappropriate or unverified information.

“Social media users must exercise wisdom and caution,” he said.

Speaking on the dangers of drug abuse, Goya called on parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to join the fight against the menace.

“Everyone has a role to play in protecting young people, and the wider society from the harmful effects of drug abuse,” he said.
