The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has introduced a toll-free helpline for residents to report fake, expired, adulterated and counterfeit products.

The agency’s General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, Mr Afolabi Solebo, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos and signed by its Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mr Adesile Rufai.

Solebo urged residents to “tell it to LASCOPA” by reporting consumer-related violations through the toll-free helpline – 080 0005 2726.

He said the helpline would provide consumers with a direct channel to report violations, seek guidance and receive timely action from the agency.

Solebo said complaints could also be made through the agency’s email and social media platforms.

He urged residents to formally report consumer-related violations to LASCOPA rather than relying solely on social media, stressing that complaints should be supported with verifiable evidence to facilitate investigation and enforcement.

He listed useful evidence as receipts, invoices, photographs or videos, product labels, proof of payment and screenshots of transactions, advertisements or conversations with sellers.

Solebo said the helpline could be used to report fake and counterfeit products, expired or adulterated goods, defective products, misleading advertisements, unfair business practices, poor services and online shopping disputes.

He advised consumers to verify product details, prices, sellers and terms and conditions before making payments, particularly when shopping online.

He also urged residents to examine product labels and confirm details such as the manufacturer, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions before purchasing products.

“Timely, credible complaints help us detect violations and take enforcement action.

“Consumer protection is a shared responsibility, government, businesses and consumers,” he said.

Solebo urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and actively participate in efforts to safeguard the marketplace from practices that could undermine consumer rights and safety.

He said: “If you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA.”
