Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory have urged fuel marketers to further reduce petrol prices following recent reductions by some filling stations.
Dangote Refinery recently cut its gantry price by N25 per litre, from N1,350 to N1,325, prompting some retailers to lower their pump prices.
Checks in Abuja showed that NNPC Ltd. and some other outlets reduced their prices to N1,370 per litre, while MRS cut its price from N1,395 to N1,370. AY Shafa, Afdin Retail Station and A.A. Rano also reduced their prices, while some marketers were yet to adjust their rates.
Motorists said further reductions were necessary to ease the impact of high fuel costs on transportation, food prices and household expenses.
Stanley Okezie, a motorist in Gwarinpa, urged marketers to reflect the decline in global crude oil prices in their pump prices.
Another motorist, Daniel Uzor, said lower petrol prices would help reduce transportation and other living costs, while Kenneth Oliver called for further reductions to provide relief to consumers.
Abdul Lateef, a motorist in Kabusa, urged stakeholders to promote transparency in fuel pricing and ensure consumers benefited from favourable market conditions.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, said marketers would continue to adjust to prevailing market conditions, noting that market volatility remained a major challenge for independent marketers.
