A 60-year-old man, Omotoyinbo Oyebanji, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N32.75 million from three doctors under false pretence.

Oyebanji was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lateef Owolabi on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Mrs Josephine Ikhayere, alleged that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences sometime in August 2025 at Ogba, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.

Ikhayere alleged that Oyebanji fraudulently obtained N27.65 million from Dr Akinosho Adebayo of AB10 Specialist Hospital, Ogba, under the pretence of assisting him to procure a CO2 incubator machine and laminar-flow machine.

She alleged that the defendant also obtained N3 million from Dr Akande Olusoji of D Gods Gift Medicare Hospital, Abule Egba, to procure a medical harmonic scalpel machine.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also obtained N2.1 million from Oyedele Oluwatoyin Ruth of Overcomers Specialist Hospital, Ogba, under the pretence of assisting her to procure a medical scanning machine.

She alleged that the defendant failed to procure any of the hospital equipment but converted the total sum of N32.75 million to his personal use.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 280, 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, Oyebanji pleaded not guilty to all the seven counts.

The Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

The court adjourned the case until Nov. 25 for further proceedings.
