NDLEA warns Nigerians about overseas parcels

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians to exercise caution when receiving parcels sent by relatives and friends living abroad.

The agency said unsuspecting recipients could face investigations if illegal drugs are discovered inside packages delivered to them, even when they were unaware of the contents.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said drug traffickers were increasingly exploiting consolidated cargo shipments to move prohibited substances into Nigeria.

According to him, some Nigerians listed as recipients may have no knowledge that drugs have been concealed inside parcels sent to them.

The agency therefore advised Nigerians to verify the contents of packages before accepting them, particularly when they did not personally arrange or send for the shipment.

The warning comes as the NDLEA intensifies efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illegal substances from entering communities across the country.

The agency stressed that claiming ignorance of a parcel’s contents may not automatically protect a recipient from investigation if prohibited substances are discovered.

The NDLEA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid accepting suspicious packages or shipments whose contents they cannot confirm.
