The Benue Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Dr Jonah Ogbaji, Medical Director of Multicare Hospital, Makurdi.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Peter Orchia, said Ogbaji was arrested by officials of the special tactical squad attached to the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, and taken to the A Division Police Station in Makurdi.
Orchia said the circumstances surrounding the arrest had yet to be fully established.
“The information I have is that he was arrested by officials from Abuja and brought to A Division.
“I am yet to get the full details of why he was arrested,” he said.
Ogbaji was earlier reported to have been abducted from the hospital premises at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday while attending to patients.
A source said some persons dressed in police uniforms arrived at the hospital in a Toyota Sienna, handcuffed Ogbaji and took him away, prompting concerns over his whereabouts.
Orchia, however, clarified that the medical director was arrested by police officials and not abducted.
