Real Madrid and France superstar Kylian Mbappé has expressed his desire in an interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI) to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, admitting that missing out on the award would be a huge blow to his competitive spirit.
The 27-year-old forward emphasized that individual numbers should take priority when deciding world football’s biggest individual honor.
He said: “I can really feel it’s a good year for me. I would be DISAPPOINTED to not win it. When a competitor doesn’t win, he is DISAPPOINTED. I am competitive!”
Mbappé highlighted his goalscoring tally across both club and international levels—including finishing as the FIFA World Cup all-time top scorer—as the key pillar of his candidacy:
“I had a great individual year, and I know that’s the most important criterion for the Ballon d’Or. I was the top scorer in all competitions. At the Ballon d’Or, they are not going to pull a team out of the envelope, but an individual player. It is an individual trophy and I believe that must take precedence over everything else.”
