’80s pop icon, Tiffany, is making her New York theatrical debut as the lead star of Spandex The Musical, an aerobics-inspired musical comedy running at Asylum NYC.
The singer, known for hits including “I Think We’re Alone Now” and “Could’ve Been,” stars as Linda Gustafson, a housewife who discovers a new passion for aerobics.
The musical is set around the colorful world of 1980s aerobics culture and follows Linda and former gymnastics prodigy, Lorraine Stubenski, as they prepare for the fictional 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship.
The production began its 10 day limited engagement on September 17, with its opening night scheduled for September 19.
The final performance is set for September 27.
For Tiffany, the role also marks a return to acting on stage.
She said her early interests included dancing and acting before her music career took off, describing the opportunity as a “full-circle moment.”
Spandex The Musical is being staged at Asylum NYC, with a portion of the production’s proceeds going toward the Children’s Miracle Network.
