Reality star Kim Kardashian has revealed that she has been diagnosed with esophagitis, a condition involving inflammation and irritation of the tissue lining the oesophagus.

The 45-year-old disclosed the diagnosis in the trailer for the eighth season of “The Kardashians”, where she was shown in a hospital bed.

In the trailer, someone off-camera asked whether the condition was the same one that caused the death of her father, Robert Kardashian, to which she replied yes.

Esophagitis can, if left untreated, progress to Barrett’s oesophagus, which is associated with an increased risk of oesophageal cancer.

Robert Kardashian, who had four children with Kris Jenner — Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob — died from oesophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59.
