Oil revival: Nigeria races to build world-class talent

Suara Sherif

Nigeria is racing to build a world-class oil and gas workforce as renewed activity in the petroleum industry creates fresh demand for highly skilled professionals.
The Federal Government says developing this talent is essential to supporting the sector’s revival and ensuring Nigerians are positioned to benefit from its growth.
The push is driven by Nigeria’s ambition to attract investment, expand production and increase local participation across the petroleum value chain.
As new projects emerge, the country needs engineers, technicians, energy specialists and other professionals capable of meeting the technical demands of a modern oil and gas industry.
The strategy centres on skills development, technical training, capacity building and local-content participation.
By strengthening the domestic talent pipeline, Nigeria can reduce reliance on foreign expertise while giving local professionals and businesses a greater opportunity to participate in exploration, production, engineering and oilfield services.
The success of the oil revival will therefore depend partly on the people powering it.
If Nigeria can produce a workforce capable of meeting international standards, the country could capture more value from new energy investment, create higher-quality employment and turn renewed petroleum activity into a lasting economic advantage.
