A 35-year-old man, Omideji Afolabi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for allegedly assaulting his neighbours.
Afolabi, who resides at Temidire Anuoluwapo Street, Oloruntedo, Asero, Abeokuta, is facing a one-count charge of assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Ojo Adewusi, told the court that Afolabi committed the offence on April 8 at about 9:15 p.m. at Oloruntedo, Asero, Abeokuta.
Adewusi alleged that the defendant approached the premises of one Mr Folorunsho Emmanuel and repeatedly banged on the gate without any justified cause.
He further alleged that Afolabi attacked Emmanuel and his wife with a kitchen knife, causing grievous bodily harm to both of them, which led to the hospitalisation of Emmanuel’s wife, Mrs Oluwaseyi Folorunsho.
The prosecutor said the incident prompted Emmanuel to raise an alarm, attracting neighbours who subsequently apprehended Afolabi.
He alleged that Afolabi had been a menace in the community, harassing residents and constituting a nuisance.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs R.A. Lawal, granted Afolabi bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties who must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary.
Lawal ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 1 for hearing.
