The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has arrested a suspected hoodlum and recovered a locally made single-barrel gun in Ikono Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo.
John said the arrest followed credible information received on Monday that an armed suspect was threatening a household at Iton Odoro Village in Ikono LGA.
She said police operatives mobilised to the area and, in collaboration with a local vigilance group, successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without any casualty.
“The complainant told police that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with a locally made firearm.
“The suspect is currently in Police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit,” John said.
John said the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended residents for their cooperation and support, assuring that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property.
She urged residents to provide timely and credible information on suspicious persons and movements in their communities to enable the police to take prompt action.
