A 35-year-old woman, Emmanuel Grace, was on Thursday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, over alleged theft of plantains valued at N5 million.
Grace, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 1 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Sogoyinbo Village, Owode-Egba, Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun alleged that Grace unlawfully entered the premises of LONSTEL FARM LTD and harvested several bunches of plantains valued at N5 million before they matured.
He said the defendant was apprehended by security guards at the farm and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Araba, granted Grace bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary and adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for hearing.
