The University of Calabar (UniCal) has disowned an impostor parading himself as “Prof. Odong” and allegedly defrauding students under the guise of helping them improve their examination results.
The university, in a statement by its Public Relations Unit, said its Security Department had established that there was no staff member known as Prof. Odong in its ICT unit.
According to the statement, the suspect, using telephone number 08144115929, allegedly contacts students, informs them that their examination results are poor, and demands money to assist them.
It said preliminary checks also indicated that the suspect operates from Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The management urged students to disregard any communication from the suspect.
It also warned them against disclosing personal or examination details or making payments to anyone claiming to have the ability to alter or facilitate their results.
“Management has zero tolerance for all forms of unethical practice and would not hesitate to sanction anyone found culpable,” the statement added.
The university urged students who had been contacted by the suspect to report the matter promptly to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
