MTN Nigeria has highlighted the growing influence of technology on sports development and talent discovery in the country as it marks its 25th anniversary.
The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Modupe Kadri, stated this on Monday during the anniversary celebration at MTN’s headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Kadri spoke at the inauguration of the MTN Y’ello Street Museum, a project showcasing the impact of telecommunications on Nigeria’s development.
She said MTN had supported the growth of young talents from grassroots competitions to international recognition through sustained investments and partnerships in sports.
According to her, mobile technology and digital platforms had transformed fan engagement while enhancing performance monitoring, data analysis, digital broadcasting and online talent scouting.
Kadri said improved connectivity provided opportunities to identify, nurture and expose Nigeria’s young athletes to global platforms, adding that technology had become an important tool for economic growth, youth development, entertainment and sports.
She said MTN’s 25-year journey also reflected Nigeria’s transition from limited telecommunications services to an expanding digital economy.
Sports presenter Chukwuebuka Anyaduba, popularly known as Chuey Chu, commended MTN’s contribution to sports development, particularly its investments in grassroots talent discovery and sponsorship programmes.
Anyaduba said the company’s support for football and athletics had helped provide Nigerian athletes with greater international exposure and created opportunities for young people to engage positively through sports.
He expressed hope that MTN would further expand its support for sports as it marks its silver jubilee.
The MTN Y’ello Street Museum features exhibitions highlighting the impact of telecommunications on business, entertainment and everyday life, while showcasing Nigeria’s broader journey of innovation and technological progress.
