The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals in connection with an alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences in Ota.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspects were arrested on Aug. 4 at about 11 a.m. by operatives attached to the Atan-Ota Division.
He said the arrest followed credible intelligence about suspected fraudulent activities at a residential building in the area.
According to him, police operatives mobilised to the location, secured the premises and arrested the suspects for investigation.
Babaseyi said 21 of the suspects were formally handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on Aug. 5 for further immigration-related investigation and appropriate action.
He added that two suspects were retained by the police for prosecution in connection with obtaining by false pretence and other related offences, pending the conclusion of investigations.
The spokesperson said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraudulent activities and identify other persons who may be connected with the scheme.
