The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that over 1,600 motorists were arrested across 11 states during the initial phase of its special enforcement drive, titled “Operation Guduma.”
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed—represented by Corps Commander Christopher Kuje—made the disclosure on Wednesday in Makurdi during the launch of the second phase of the operation in Benue.
Mohammed stated that the first phase, executed between May 18 and May 22, led to the prosecution of offenders, while motorists caught using fake diplomatic number plates were transferred to the Department of State Services for further investigation.
He explained that “Guduma,” an Hausa word meaning hammer, reflects the agency’s resolve to crack down on traffic violations that pose risks to public safety and national security.
The second phase, running from November 2 to November 6 across Benue and 11 other states, focuses on vehicles displaying fake, covered, defaced, expired, or missing registration plates, as well as instances of overloading.
Benue Sector Commander Victory Kayode-Oni urged motorists to ensure full compliance with roadworthiness standards and documentation to avoid impoundment and legal sanctions.
