Jorge Messi, the father and long-time agent of Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68. He passed away on Friday night in a hospital in his hometown of Rosario, Argentina, after battling a long illness.
Jorge was the most important person behind Messi’s football career, When Messi was 13 and needed growth treatment, Jorge arranged his trial at Barcelona and moved to Spain with him.
When times were tough in Spain, Jorge stayed with young Messi so he could chase his dream.
He also acted as Messi’s main agent throughout his career, handling his contracts and business deals.
Jorge leaves behind his wife, Celia, and their four children: Lionel, Rodrigo, Matías, and María Sol. Messi is now expected to travel to Rosario to be with his family.
