The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Kebbi State Government, warning that it will embark on an indefinite strike if its demands are not met.
In a statement jointly signed on Sunday by the union’s Chairman, Dr Isah Musa-Fakai, and Secretary, Dr Gado Abubakar, ASUU said the ultimatum serves as a final reminder to the government and relevant authorities to address its unresolved demands.
The union said failure to implement the Federal Government/ASUU 2025 Agreement, which took effect on Jan. 1, 2026, and resolve other outstanding welfare issues affecting its members would leave it with no option but to begin a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike.
According to the statement, the decision followed a meeting between the ASUU-AFUSTA branch congress and the union’s National Visitation Team on July 30, where members reviewed the situation in the university.
It said the congress observed that despite previous engagements with the relevant authorities, the issues remained unresolved.
ASUU said the congress unanimously approved a two-week ultimatum, effective from July 31 to Aug. 13, directing the Governing Council and the university management to fully implement the agreement and address all pending welfare concerns.
The union described industrial action as a last resort after dialogue and constructive engagement had failed but reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful resolution. It urged the authorities to act within the stipulated period to prevent disruption of the academic calendar.
