The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and rescued a woman abducted from her shop in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this on Thursday in Port Harcourt, saying a white-tinted minibus allegedly used by the suspects was also recovered.
She said the operation followed an intelligence-led investigation after the victim’s husband reported the abduction on July 11.
According to Agabe, the woman was attending to customers at her shop when armed men stormed the premises, forced her into a white-tinted minibus and fled.
She said operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Rescue Unit tracked the suspects to their hideout, where four men aged between 28 and 42 were arrested and the victim rescued unharmed.
Agabe added that the suspects had confessed to their individual roles in the crime, while efforts were ongoing to arrest two other members of the syndicate and recover the firearms used in the operation.
She urged residents to provide credible information to the police, assuring them that all useful information would be treated confidentially, and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing.
