A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced an 18-year-old trader, Abdulsalam Dahiru, to one year in prison for stealing a bag of metal scraps.
The convict pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of trespass and theft brought against him by the police.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced Dahiru to one year imprisonment for the offences, with an option of N50,000 fine and N100,000 compensation.
While reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on July 7 at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by the complainant, Ema Ikechukwu.
Gokwat said the convict trespassed and stole a bag of metal scraps valued at N100,000. He added that Dahiru also confessed to stealing another bag earlier.
He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
