The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS2 Zonal Command, recorded 2,944 traffic offences during a three-day Zonal Special Intervention Patrol conducted across Lagos and Ogun states from July 20 to 22.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olufemi Olonisaye, said the operation, code-named “AABO (Safety),” was aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations, strengthening enforcement and reducing road crashes.
According to him, 2,224 motorists were apprehended for committing 2,944 traffic offences, with 1,423 classified as major offences requiring immediate enforcement.
He said Lagos recorded 1,787 traffic offences and 940 offenders during the operation, while Ogun recorded 1,157 offences involving 882 offenders.
Olonisaye commended personnel for their professionalism and dedication, stressing that the exercise was designed to discourage dangerous driving, promote compliance with traffic laws and improve road safety.
He disclosed that the Corps Marshal had directed all zonal commands to conduct the special intervention patrol monthly as part of efforts to reduce road traffic deaths and injuries by 10 per cent this year.
Olonisaye urged motorists to obey traffic regulations by avoiding speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, route violations, phone use while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other unsafe practices.
He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to sustained enforcement, strategic patrols, stakeholder engagement and public enlightenment to ensure safer roads and protect lives and property.
