Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South of Kaduna State say the party remains a formidable platform for political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders made the assertion during the Kaduna South Senatorial District PDP expanded caucus meeting in Kafanchan.
Speaking at the event, Mr Akusor Danjuma, Zonal Chairman of the party, assured party members, supporters and aspirants that the PDP remained intact and on course to participate in the 2027 polls.
Danjuma urged aspirants contesting under the PDP in the zone to remain resolute, noting that the party would provide a level playing field for all candidates ahead of the elections.
“We came to assure our stakeholders, our supporters and especially those contesting elections on the platform of the PDP that we will be on the ballot in 2027,” he stated.
He explained that although the party might adopt direct primaries, efforts were ongoing among aspirants to reach consensus arrangements across various positions.
“Our aspirants have understanding among themselves and will continue consultations to arrive at consensus resolutions on who contests for which position in every local government.
“There is no cause for concern regarding the party’s internal processes. We are urging them to intensify consultations and engagement with one another,” he added.
In his remarks, Felix Hyet, the immediate past chairman of the party in the state, described the PDP as the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic development, stressing that many members of other political parties had their roots in the PDP.
“You look at the PDP; it has been the father and mother of all other political parties, even those in other parties today,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing dispute within the party will be resolved in the shortest possible time.
Also speaking, a former deputy governor of the state, Mr Nuhu Bajoga, stated that the PDP continues to enjoy strong grassroots support in Southern Kaduna, which he described as a traditional stronghold of the PDP.
“Southern Kaduna is the home of the PDP, and we cannot let that go to any other party. This is our party; this is our home,” he added.
On his part, Danjuma Sarki, a House of Assembly aspirant, dismissed concerns over recent defections and alleged intimidation, insisting that such developments would not weaken the party’s chances.
“We are not deterred by defections and intimidation. Come 2027, we will deliver,” he said.
Other stakeholders who spoke criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the current economic hardship in the country and Kaduna State to what they described as poor governance.
According to them, Nigerians are increasingly seeking an alternative that would guarantee effective leadership and improved welfare.
The stakeholders expressed optimism that the PDP would provide the desired good governance and regain power in the 2027 elections.
