The Lagos State Government has advised residents to be cautious and vigilant in their transactions this Easter period to avoid exploitation and unsafe practices.
It said that unpatriotic traders and service providers might take advantage of the festive period to exploit innocent residents.
The General Manager of Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr Afolabi Solebo, gave the advice in a statement on Thursday.
“Consumers have fundamental rights, but they also have responsibilities such as being careful while making personal decisions.
“Also, they have the responsibility of being enlightened and watchful and voicing out as well as protecting their environments,” he said.
Solebo advised the residents to be mindful of increased commercial activities typically associated with festive periods.
He said that the activities could come with risks such as price inflation, sale of substandard, expired or hazardous products, and misleading promotional offers.
The general manager advised the people to verify product quality and authenticity, especially as regards food, beverages and pharmaceuticals, before buying.
He urged them to check expiry dates, avoid patronising unregistered vendors, and demand receipts for all transactions.
He warned traders against unfair practices, saying that LASCOPA would intensify monitoring and enforcement across markets, shopping centres, and recreational facilities during the Easter period.

Solebo advised residents doing online transactions to make payments at the point of delivery.
The general manager reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring a fair marketplace.
