Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the third round of the African qualifiers for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games after defeating Comoros 5–0 in the second leg of their qualifying tie.

The match was played on Tuesday, October 13, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. The result gave Nigeria a 7–0 aggregate victory, following a 2–0 win in the first leg.

Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scored twice each, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty to complete the victory.

Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute, giving Nigeria the lead before half-time.

Kanu extended the advantage in the second half before Payne scored her second goal in the 63rd minute.

Kanu added her second three minutes later, while Ucheibe converted a penalty in the 71st minute to seal the 5–0 win.

The victory has set up a third-round meeting with Morocco in the next phase of the qualifying competition, scheduled for 2027.

The upcoming encounter is expected to provide a tougher test for Nigeria as the team seeks to maintain its momentum against a challenging opponent.

The Super Falcons will need to prepare carefully for the tie, with squad fitness, tactical organisation and attacking efficiency likely to be important factors in determining the outcome.

Although the victory over Comoros has brought Nigeria a step closer to its Olympic objective, qualification is not yet secured. The team must progress through the remaining qualifying rounds to earn a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The meeting with Morocco will therefore be another crucial step in Nigeria’s bid to return to the Olympic women’s football tournament.
