Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has announced institutional reforms to reposition the organisation for greater impact and strengthen its leadership structure.
President-General, Sen. John Azuta-Mbata, disclosed this during a visit to Gov. Alex Otti in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South of Abia.
Azuta-Mbata, represented by his deputy, Chief Okey Nwadinobi, said the leadership had focused on consolidating the organisation since its election in January 2025.
He said a strategic retreat was held to define goals, alongside a four-year work plan to guide implementation and measurable progress.
He added that a modern secretariat complex was about 85 per cent complete, marking significant infrastructural advancement.
Azuta-Mbata said seven professorial endowment chairs would be established, one in each South-East state, to promote Igbo language and culture.
He said a new draft constitution had been prepared and would soon be presented to the general assembly for ratification
The President-General also announced the revival of the Igbo Investment Company and the Igbo Development Foundation to drive economic projects.
He said an annual Igbo Adoration and Thanksgiving Day had been introduced to celebrate the preservation and progress of the Igbo people.
Azuta-Mbata commended Otti for supporting the organisation’s activities in Abia and across the region.
He praised the governor’s strides in education, healthcare, road infrastructure and urban renewal.
According to him, free primary and junior secondary education has eased financial burdens, while expanded health centres and improved roads enhanced safety and access.
He described ongoing renewal projects in Aba and Umuahia as reflective of global best practice in urban planning.
An independent survey, he said, showed that most Abia residents were satisfied with the administration’s performance.
Azuta-Mbata urged strategic engagement to address challenges facing Igbos outside the South-East, particularly in Lagos and Abuja.
He called on South-East governors to collaborate on power supply, describing it as essential for regional economic growth.
He thanked the governor for his support and pledged continued partnership to advance the interests of “Ndi Igbo”.
Responding, Otti commended the organisation’s leadership for what he described as purposeful and impactful administration.
“We are very happy with the progress made so far. One year on, we are not disappointed.
“Let him know that we understand and appreciate the work he and his team are doing,” the governor added.
Otti said he had noted the issues raised and would explore areas where the state could provide assistance.
He congratulated the leadership on the near completion of the national secretariat and reaffirmed support for its mission.
“I encourage you to continue doing more for our people,” Otti said.
